Awesome New Surf Spot and Beach
Warning: This is going to be long
This week was the very quiet Grand Opening of the newest surf spot in SL. Most of the sim is water... and that is covered in waves. It is incredible!! I may be prejudiced, but you will just have to go check it out for yourself.
Disclaimer - I am one of the owners. So sue me ;)
How did this happen? I know you are dying to know... just as Flynn and I (okay, not so much me) were ready to check out of SL, a friend joined up. He explored SL... saw some very pretty beach sims, and said, "We could do that." After Flynn and I stopped laughing and reminded him we were moving away from spending so much of our RL in SL, he investigated what was involved. Long story short... Kaiano (our friend) said "what if?" Next thing I know... our friend has joined the auction for a new sim. Then we all held our breath. And he got it! Woo Hoo! Hi-fives all the way around. WooT! Followed quickly be a, "What have we done?" LMAO!
OMG! Fast forward... we built this incredible place! He put Flynn in charge of the ocean, I took charge of the residential (having a project makes me happy and Kaiano made me an owner - so I ran with it). Kaiano was happy to sit back, put the initial cash out and let us do whatever we wanted. Foolish man, LOL. I love you Kai! We all have gone crazy buying stuff to make it look good.
My creative juices have gone crazy. We built shops. I made all the furniture on the beach. And have tons of ideas for more.
It isn't just a place to play for us, Flynn created an island and put a house on it. We have the most amazing views of the waves. I have resisted buying furniture for our house so far, because I am convinced I can make it all, LOL; although I have my eye on an outrageously expensive bed I saw.
So I said it was a surf spot. That is the main part of the sim. Flynn put in several of Heather Goodliffe's pipes and fluffies (I have no idea what they are really called). He tried out the Epic waves there, but we had the same problems with them breaking up and getting stuck that we had at Hedon. I swear SL doesn't want Flynn to have Epic waves. But the pipes are great. I don't notice much difference, and there is a lot less frustration. So maybe if the bugs we've experienced get worked out, we will put in Epics.
It is so incredible and I am having so much fun! I am on SL all the time now. So much for cutting back, LOL. I will get pictures up soon. Come surf and hang out at the beach soon! And if you are looking for a place live, IM me to see a rental.

Couple of pics from the Hedon Contest
Thursday, May 24, 2007
Hey Hedon Surfers...
Flynn is taking a poll of all the surf team members to see if we want to stay together, and as part of Hedonistic Isle. Let him know (or me for that matter) what you would like to do.
It would be so cool to get a tight group and hang out instead of just share a tag. Oh well... what ever you all want :P

Oh I give up! I have been trying to post these since the wedding and that was weeks ago. Appparently Blogger hates me as much as SL does. I give you these for now and I will throw more up as I can.
These are way too late - but better late then never. I will try to not post the same pics Keala has...
OMG Can you believe Flynn in pants????

Competitors, you’ll get your rashguards and rules dropped to you before the event… and the surfboards will be provided for you on the day. Mainly, remember to read through the surf ettiquette post by Mal… the judges will be cracking down more on surfers who drop into waves. Basically, if the judges see two surfers on the same wave, both competitors might receive deductions against their score. So, be gracious and take turns on the wave, in order. Everybody should line up on the same side of the wave (the right side, if you’re standing on the beach and looking out to the waves). Take turns… one surfer per wave, please.
Woot. See ya on Saturday!
Meaning that I am wearing black. Saves me the trouble of trying to coordinate a bikini :)

Surfing Etiquette
I have it on good authority that the following was written by Malcom Sydney:
With surfing growing exponentially in SL, here are a few words about surfing etiquette.
~ The Line Up ~
As with all things in life, we will need to line up to catch a wave. If there is no line up then, the wave is all yours. However, if there are people waiting for a wave, please go to the back of the line. Jumping the queue is never a nice thing to do and will cause hurt feelings, bad vibes and frustrate others. As always, we get perfect waves in SL, so use your mini-map to check that someone else is not waiting for a wave on the other side of it before you hop on to it.
~ Paddling in ~
When you paddle out, use the channels on either side of the wave… meaning, don’t paddling out directly into the wave, ’cause most likely another surfer is going to be surfing towards you on the wave and you’ll bump into him/her. So, pick a side, any side, and paddle out to the wave avoiding the other surfers.
~ Catching Waves ~
When catching a wave, the surfer closest to the wave has the right of way. When in doubt ask the person if they are going to catch the wave. If you are the closest surfer to the wave and decide not to catch the wave, tell others ahead of time so they can enjoy the wave.
~ The Drop-In ~
The drop-in is the worst thing one surfer can do to another. If someone is already in a wave or paddle for a wave, don’t try to catch the same wave (the drop-in). This is not cool. Two people on the same wave is not fun when you are not playing bumper surfing.
~ Party Waves ~
If you are surfing with friends, then whatever, have a party. Party waves are for all to enjoy. 2+ people on a wave can be a very fun time for everyone, especially when you are playing bumper surfing. Just tell everyone the wave you are catching is a party wave or you may accidentially drop-in on another surfer.
Enjoy the waves and respect other’s enjoyment…. and have fun!

Flynn's Wake
So Phalen sends out a Beach party invite for last night, inviting everyone to say goodbye to Surf God (or was it Beach God? doesn't matter) Flynn Sheridan.
After Flynn and I stopped rolling on the ground, laughing our asses off (sometimes ROFLMAO is appropriate) we picked ourselves up, massaged our sore bellies, and Flynn sent out a reply that he in fact is only a minor deity (I snorted milk out my nose at that) and informed who ever cared that the Irish (of which Flynn is, as if you couldn't already tell, Duh!) only celebrate someone when they are dead! Thanks, but no thanks.
Well, there is no stopping Bad Boy Phelan James (as he refers to himself, I'm laughing again) when he makes up his mind. And Flynn and I never turn down a good party - and the Kahuna Beach parties are the best, with the BEST people around. So Flynn graciously allowed himself to be the guest of honor and the main excuse for the gathering. Gee Phelan, what's your excuse going to be next week? Just kidding, I love you man!
We had sooooo much fun, and I had so many chats and IMs open that I did not take one picture! I know! I can't believe it either. Let's see if I can remember who was there... Keala and Mal were there the whole time. Req popped in a danced for awhile (and spent too much time AFK - I am pushing you in the water next time bro!), SamyJo and Frankie... hmmm who else? people I hadn't met before... Blue. Geez I should pull up my chat log and see... cuz I am being muddle-brained right now. You know who was missing? Tabby! Poor girl is finishing up her semester and missed the party invite. I forgive you sweetie! We all missed you! And we stayed until the bitter end, slow dancing the night away - I knew those poseballs were a good investment! - with Phelan and Bailey. I don't ask questions. (Honestly it was so cute. Bad boy, my ass!)
And I swear to gawd, I was planning to log off and go to bed. Had to check out 1 thing - famous last words, right? Then, Flynn TP's me to the most awesome surf spot - West of Ireland! Who knew? Pulled my board out right them and there and rode the waves. LOL, didn't even bother changing clothes. Out there in my jeans. At least I was barefoot, but then I am always barefoot. **shrugs**
Went skydiving.
They had one of those pods hidden in the rocks. Kind of fun, first time I forgot the parachute - so i free-fell alllllll-- the -- waaaaayyyyy -- doooowwwwwnnn. Hee hee, thank god you can't actually break anything in SL.
Flew around the area a bit to see what the Irish are up to. Looks like a fun place to hang... i will definitely have to stop back again. And Keala has a Namiko shop there. Well of course she does! If a spot has waves, Namiko has a shop. I love you sweetie! Seriously Keala is a great person. And I want those shortie board shorts!
I think I have blathered on long enough now and should get back to work. ;)

Yawn!
**drumming fingers on desk**
So I get a whole half hour for lunch in the summer. WooHoo! Par-tay! I would like to spend my half-hour sneaking onto SL and see if I can whip up a new necklace. And... screeching HALT! Frickin' maintenance! Okay so I know that it is a good thing that they make sure all the electrical doo-hickies are connected and so-on. What-ev-er! Just plug that damnthing back in! I only have a half hour!
I have 6 minutes left in my lunch. It's still down. Have the Lindens actually looked at what countries and times zones would impact us the least? Just curious.
So, surf competition Saturday. To be completely honest, I am thinking about pulling out. I do not know these waves. They are my waves for god's sake. I am on them almost everyday. And I can't get a decent ride out of them. They are full of quirks, and all I get is mad when I try to surf them. And I really, I mean REALLY, do not want to embarrass myself by looking like an idiot on them. For goodness sakes, its my beach (sort of). How bad would it look if a Hedon, excuse me, Kahuna beach staff person and Hedonism Surf team member does not surf in the competition? Pretty bad, huh? *sigh* I'll compete. With my fingers crossed. And my toes crossed. Praying to Malcolm's lag god. Is there a scripting god? That is who I need to pray to -
Dear scripting god,
please let me not get stuck in the middle of the wave looking at my own ass,
please let me stay on my feet and not be paddling like mad in the pipe,
please do not throw me into the sim's edge to trapped like its quicksand,
please do not throw my 10 feet up the beach so that I have to edit myself back into the water, and
please let me see where I am going.
Please do not let me make an ass of myself.
Amen.
It is 3 minutes, no 4 minutes past the time they are supposed to be done. And my lunch is officially over.
*sigh*

Kahuna Beach Surf Competition
How could I now blog this yet? This saturday, yes, this Saturday, May 19th, is Kahuna Beach's first, and SL's 3rd Surf Competition. (I don't think I used enough commas in that last sentence).
Am I freaking out? Damn skippy! I came in last place in the competition at TWC, and I do NOT need to repeat that, and at my own beach even. I have been out practicing everyday, on several different board - geez, who would have thought there were so many different boards. I thought there was one. Heather's. Okay, so they are all Heather's. And some are Seb's too, but I am fuzzy on that. And I guess she updates the scripts. That makes sense. And she updates the waves. So the different surf spots have different versions of the waves. So you mix different boards with different waves and who know what the hell you get.
Sorry, went off on a rant there (and anyone that knows me, knows that I am not really sorry, I go off on rants all the time. That's me)
So, I know our pipe. And it's little quirks. And Flynn had Heather come out and tinker with it - and now it is completely different!!!!!! I have to start all over now. My own fault. I have been bitching about the waves non-stop, about getting stuck a third the way down the pipe, and then getting thrown 50 feet up the beach at the end of every ride.
Flynn messed with the shoreline and the depth of the surf-break and whatever, and anyway, he fixed the shoreline, and I can stop surfing before I hit the sand. Thank you honey! Now I just have to figure out what Heather did to the pipe.
And the board. I need to know what board to practice on! I have used the beach freebie board, my Hibiscus board (those two surf similar), my old Namiko board (not a good combination with this wave), my EPIC competition board from TWC competition, and a newer Namiko board (which is horrid with this pipe). Apparently there are new Namiko boards coming out anyday now,and so we can just add that to the mix.
I am sure it is me - I am new to this SL surfing thing, and new to the different boards, but this is my rant - so whatever! I am having problems. I asked what boards we are going to be using, so I knew what to practice with, and that hadn't been deteremined yet (I think). I was being very thickheaded that night, so I was having problems making sense of things. Or may be it wasn't just that night, could have just been the way I am.... a tad dense.
So back to the beach and I will just practice on all of them - see what happens. Wish me luck!
Oh yeah - the competition is at Kahuna Beach on Saturday, May 19th, time TBD. IM Keala Mimistrobell in-world if you are interested in competeing.
See you at the beach!

Mal and Emme's Wedding
I took half a billion pictures! So, let me sort through them and then I will post. All in all, it was beautiful and a huge success. I was very impressed with how it went and the site they had it at was great. It was a spot that was all set just for weddings. Poseballs and all. Lots of couples dances for the reception, salsa, swing, slow dance. Yep, there was a reception too, compplete with Champagne, cake, and dancing. LOL, and the picture taking was just as long, complicated and boring (no offense to photographer), as RL. And poor Harper. She was full of technical difficulties. Crash and rebot, crash and reboot, and repeat. She and Alex would never be able to hang out.
More to come...

oh my goodness
life has been crazy! Real life commitments have made it impossible for me to be in SL as much as usual. Therefore, I haven't had much to say here of course. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like it is going to let up anytime soon, so my presence and Flynn's at the beach is going to be limited in the for-see-able (no matter how I spelled that it looked wrong) future.
We were at the beach last night for a beach party - and it was veeery quiet. Talk to Requiem (my brother and surf god) a bit. He was with friends, and their conversation went way over my head. I gotta learn to speak another language. They were having a lovely conversation in french. After a couple of minutes I gave up. My junior high french classes only left me with understanding about every one word out of 30. Somebody said d'accord. I know that one. It means okay. Someone said attend, which I thing means listen, or pay attention. Other than that... no clue. I did catch that they were just randomly typing letters sometimes. I think they were messing with me. It's not nice to make fun of the linguistically challenged, you know! Anyway after a couple of minutes I politely excused myself (stomped off and pouted), and joined Malcolm and Flynn.
Malcolm and Emme are getting married tonight. Flynn and I are invited and I can't wait to go! I don't get the getting married in SL thing. It is probably just because I am an old married lady... but I am not sure I see the point. *sigh* I am sure it will come to me eventually and then I will feel like an idiot for saying, "I don't get it." In any event, I am sure it will be lovely and fun to see everyone, especially in something other than bikinis and board shorts!
Warren was there and joined us for a bit. He was standing with Req's crowd when I popped in. No idea if he speaks french or not. Matter of fact, for the most part, I have no idea what anyone speaks in RL. In my ignorance, I assume everyone is American and speaks English. I am sooo self-centered. I have finally got it in my head that Req is french. I feel stupid for asking where people are from, like either I should already know, or that is personal and I shouldn't ask. I need to get in the habit of looking a people's profiles.
Seano, my surf hero, and Lira popped in. Seano and Flynn had an imprompto surf chat and Lira went offline after awhile. I decided I needed to surf - I have been fighting the waves and their updates lately. Used my new board - used the beach board and all I can say is "AARRRGGGHHHHHHH!" I don't think that has a french translation. I keep getting stuck a third of the way from the end. and I can't end the ride soon enough. I try, and I try, and TRY! But every single flippin' time - the wave throws my up into the beach. I went and asked Seano and Flynn to watch what I am doing wrong. No clue. They both jumped on their boards after a bit, and tried it out. No opinion from Flynn (imagine that!) and after Seano and I tangled, stuck together the whole ride, he gave up too. I managed to avoid running into him on the wave 3-4 times. I am getting better at that. After the last time I got thrown up on the beach and got stuck in a tree (I am NOT kidding!), Flynn went to work to try to make a wave break or something. Whatever, just fix the damn thing. I have to go into edit everytime and position myself back in the water. Dork, dork, dork!
After that, Alex came for a visit. Didn't get to visit though... he must have crashed 5-6 times in 10 minutes. Bailey and I just keep up with "He's gone again" and "He's back," and "Welcome Back." About that time I had to bail to RL.
Okay, done bitching. For now.

April 26th Par-tay!
As usual - a huge success. I saw a lot of new people. I think Phelan said we had about 30 people dancing on the beach at any given time. I think that is fanstastic, especially since we couldn't send out any group messages or IMs. **pouts**
I have to say I am a little perturbed about the name of the beach though. What was wrong with my name? I did some serious research, and put a lot of thought into it. Brat Beach! Granted it should be named after me, of course, but that fits the profile of most of us there. **pouts some more** Seriously I did come up with some great names, which for some reason known only to the powers that be - ahem, Flynn -cough, cough Phelan, cough - were not deemed worthy. Well that is just fine, I will keep them to myslef and when I am fabulously wealthy and buy my own island, I will use one of them, and everyone will love it, and love me for it! Little too much? probably
Anyway, back to the party! Because there were so many new people I have to actually use notes to keep track of who was there. Luckily we are all a very distinctive bunch, and hopefully I get the right name to the right person.
The always stylish Kiana Foxley
Kimmy Leroux, Frost Silverstar and ? (sorry)
The beautiful Lira Laval
Quintus Menges, you can't beat the Running Man
Ramus Overlord, I have got to have one of those puppies!
OMG the moves! That's my bro, Requiem Theriac
Sweet Sierra Sugar - and somehow I didn't get Thor is this shot, Damn! They were so cute, matching outfits and all!
My oh-so-cute baby sis, Tabby -- be nice to her guys, or you will have to answer to me!
TopDawg and Jade Marie - gotta love synchronized couples dancing. That is an Olympic Event, isn't it?
Hedonism Surfer Teammate, Vincent Oliver
I somehow managed not to get a specific shot of Alex (okay I don't have any where he isn't asleep). Thor (what was I thinking? - and I missed the whole naming announcement prize convocation, even though I was on stage), Flynn (I see him all the time, wasnt even thinking about pictures of him), or myself (the big what was I thinking - I looked amazing! New outfit and everything!)
C'ya at the beach!

Surf Boards
BTW, the new Surf Boards are available and on the beach. Go check them out, and then buy one, or two. Heck buy them all! You never know what you will be in the mood for.
Stupid SL Update
Won't let us send out group notices, group IMs are irratic, and my friends list has vanished.
Tomorrow (that's Thursday night) we have out weekly beach party. Featured is the big reveal of Hedon Beach's new and official name! I know something you don't know. Hee hee.
Anyway the party starts at 5pm SLT, but you are welcome anytime!

My Board
Just wanted to show my new board. This is the Heather Goodliffe Epic Board with SamyJo design. SamyJo did a gorgeous job with the multistipe wood and Hibiscus inlay. It is just beautiful. This board along with the other 8 designs should be available very soon at Hedonism Beach. We will let you know as soon as they are. Until then you can see them in world in the Vendor area of the beach or posted below.

Reaction Bikinis
It is high time to review some swimear and I really want to show off these bikinis I picked up from Reaction. Who doesn't like a beautiful bikini? Girls want to buy them, guys want to... wonder what is under them. I originally went to check out Reaction because a friend had on a really cool ankle thingy (do you call it an anklet if it is on a guy?). Anklets seem to be in such short supply in SL, when I saw his I headed straight over. Took me forever to find the darn thing, but there it was on the checkout counter. Really, how was I supposed to know to look there? Counters are just decoration in SL, I have never actually seen anyone behind one. I looked at every durn poster in the place trying to find a piece of jewelry.
This is the Coco Bikini Set and comes with the board shorts. How cool is that? I love how the suits are cut. The top is just perfect and shows off the boobs in the best possible way, and not in an over obvious way. The bottom is skimpy without feeling naked. Hell I just feel sexy in it!
The next two are Green Bikini set and Orange Bikini set. I know tres original. However, it makes things much easier to find when you have an inventory and bikini folder the size of mine. I am torn as to which one I like more. Green is always a great color for redheads, but I do so love orange. I guess I will just have to eeny-meeny them. All bikini sets are L$140 and the board shorts are included. A true bargain.
Oh and the ankle doo-hicky? Man sized. As you can see in the photo it looks like a loose shackle on me. Something else I am going to have to create. I need to see if it is transferable, maybe Flynn will like it. For the record it was L$70. I did however pick up a cute necklace, and you know me, I am all over a cute beachy necklace. It is also pictured above and was a well earned L$95.

2nd SL Surf Competition Results and After Party
What an amazing event!! We all showed up, with minimal prim and left our scripts behind. Can I say, there were a lot of bald heads and duck walking that day. But it worked. The lag was definitely less this time.
Only in SL would I ever dream of being able to compete in a Surfing Competition, and not making a complete fool of myself. As it was I think I did pretty well for my first competition and limited experience on these waves. I achieved my goal of at least scoring some points. Here are the results as posted if Namiko's website (www.namikosurf.com):
Finalists
1. Frankie Miles (Surf Chix Team Rider)
2. Requiem Theriac (Hedonistic Surf Team)
3. Seano Osumi (Namiko Team Rider)
4. AlexSurfer Hirons (BillabongTeam Pro)
Semi Finalists
5. Malcolm Sydney (Namiko Team Rider)
6. Thor Bishop (Namiko Team Rider)
7. Eield Decosta
8. Flynn Sheridan (Hedonistic Surf Team)
9. Valent1ne Apogee (Namiko Team Rider)
10. Creed Lisle
Quarter Finalists

I didn't finish last. Hurrah! I am not going to even check to see if Gerran, Warren and Kidd were able to compete. I am going to just be happy with not finishing last. If I remember right, I got 12 points. Not too bad, especially considering that we didn't even know that our heat had started until a minute and a half into it. I received a souvenir surfboard, the one I used in the competition, and a L$50 gift certificate from Namiko. Not sure what I will do with that since I already own every suit Keala has ever made. **Cierra double checks her inventory** I need to ask her to make some cute little board shorts.
Great job by all of the Hedon Team! Flynn made it to the Semi-Finals. Vince, Tabby and I were able to compete well. We just gave up the perfect ride to someone else in out heat. Aren't we givers?
Super congrats to my SL Bro and teammate Requiem Theriac for his second place finish! Congrats to everyone for their jobs well done, especially those of you who have been so friendly and welcoming to me. You know who you are ;)
Unfortunately I didn't get any pictures, of the competition. But when you check out Namiko's site, you can also see photos taken by Ramus Overlord, their team photographer.
Here are my pictures taken during the competition and at the after party held at Hedon Beach (send your name suggestions on a notecard in-world to Flynn Sheridan before April 22).
From the competition:
And the after party. Only question - Who invited the sheep?
And then then everyones clothes magically disappeared -damn that SL- while we were surfing! I see a new marketing campaign: Hedonism Beach-Home of SL's only clothing optional Ssurf spot. And after we heroically we danced on:
Honestly, Flynn and I were not the only ones naked - the other pictures were, well, not suitable for publication.
